Cosey is born
as Bernard Cosendai on June 14 th in Lausanne, Switzerland. He is the youngest of three
children, and the only boy. |

Cosey quits
school early and starts working in an advertising agency. He gets his one and only
diploma: a 'certificate of capacity'. |
| 1969 |
Cosey wants to
become a comics author and contacts Derib (Claude de Ribeaupierre), the only professional
comics author in Switzerland at that time. Derib decides to take Cosey as an apprentice.
Cosey will work with Derib for a several years, especially as a colorist for 'Go West!'
and 'Yakari'. Cosey and Derib share their interest in oriental philosophy, and a lifelong
friendship results from their cooperation. |

Cosey's first
publication. He wins the third prize with his design for the magazine Spirou (Robbedoes),
which is published on the cover of no 1630. |
| 1971 |
Publication of
'Monfreyd et Tilbury' in 'Le Soir', a belgian newspaper. 3 stories of 8 pages are made on
scenarios by André Paul Duchâteau. |
| 1971/72/73 |
Cosey makes
three stories about the journalist Paul Aroid for the Lausanne newspaper '24 heures'. The
first is a short story ('24 hours with Paul Aroid'), the second a longer story ('Le retour de la Bête'). Both stories have been
reprinted in some later books. The third Paul Aroid story 'Un rire au fond du lac' is
published in '24 heures' in 1973, but is never re-published as an album. It is Cosey's
first work as an 'auteur complet', responsible for the scenario as well as the drawings. |
