The 10th of March of this year, one of comic’s greatest artists, Jean Giraud (also known as Moebius or Gir) died at the age of 73. A special issue of the french magazine dBD pays homage to Giraud. One of the contributors is Cosey, with this drawing and the story.

Cosey: Repérages

2012_reperages

The ‘Médiathèque Valais’ in Martigny (Switzerland) announces the exposition: Cosey Repérages – Photography et Bande Dessinée’. The word ‘Repérage’ can be translated as ‘exploration’, but in photography it is also used for ‘finding your viewpoint’ or for ‘making a test set-up’.

From the press invitation, I quote (& translate) the following: ‘To tell stories in images, the comic author uses the same tools as the photographer: various framings, rythm, composition… In the works of Cosey photography and comics are intimately connected. Travel pictures or archive photos: his explorations has led him into Asia, but also to… the Médiathèque Valais – Martigny!’

As we know from many interviews with Cosey, travel and discovery come before the creation of a story, sometimes even years before. Cosey talks about ‘a certain nostalgia’ when he chooses an environment for his stories. So this exposition focuses on an essential characteristic of Cosey’s creative process. Interesting!

From 11 february till 20 may 2012, in Martigny (Switzerland).

2012

2011_12_30_samedi

As you might know, the end of the world has been predicted for 2012. In the ‘Samedi Culturel’ (of 30 december 2011), supplement to ‘Le Temps’, Cosey gives his view on this prediction: the water level of Lac Leman has risen and only the towers of Lausanne’s cathedral are still visible. A disaster, yes, but apparently the survivors know how to enjoy it!

Mystery solved… competition cancelled…

2011_11_04_larcenet

Sometime ago, I asked you to solve a puzzle. In Manu Larcenet’s ‘L’armure du Jackolass’, Larcenet thanks a few comic artists for their contribution to the album, among whom Cosey. I asked you to find Cosey’s contribution, but I got no answers. Now, the mystery has been solved: there is no drawing of Cosey in the book. Cosey actually made a drawing for the album, but it was lost somewhere… so maybe we have to await a new edition of the album.

Lhahl statue – a jade version

2011_11_21_lhahl_jade_a 2011_11_21_lhahl_jade_b

Les Sculpteurs des Bulles have made a special edition of the Lhahl statue (in fact, all are special editions, but this one extra special): the statue with a jade look. I like it, because it is less realistic then the polychrome versions. I think this is more in the spirit of Cosey’s drawings. But… there are only 4 statues available!
