Champaka

Saturday, I visited the exposition of Cosey’s Atsuko works at the Galerie Champaka in Brussels. I made some photos, that are terribly spoiled by reflections in the glass…

The front window of the Galerie.

The first page of Atsuko. Some 20 Atsuko-pages were on display on the entrance level floor, on the floor below, pages from other Cosey-albums were shown. So you could take a little walk through (Cosey) history, being amazed by the evolution of his drawing style.

Two pages from Atsuko.

Also on display were sketches and colour studies for Atsuko. These photos in particular are spoiled by reflections. Therefore, I will only show two of them, that didn’t make it to the ‘Special edition’ of Atsuko.

You can visit the exposition at Galerie Champaka till 20 november 2011. Highly recommended!

Competition – without prizes

2011_11_04_larcenet

Recently, the french comic artist Manu Larcenet published this album ‘L’armure du Jakolass’. It is a tribute to the series ‘Valérian’ (dutch: Ravian) by Jean Claude Mézières. In the album, Larcenet thanks some artists for their contribution to this album, and one of them is Cosey.

Now the big question of this competition: can you find the contribution made by Cosey? Please scan or copy it and send it to ‘The World of Cosey’ – see my contact page.

It’s a competition without prizes, but you will win eternal fame as a connaisseur on this page of ‘The World of Cosey’!

2011_11_02_maghen

Today, the Cosey exposition at Galerie Daniel Maghen (Paris) is opened. Friday 4 november will be the official vernissage, in the presence of Cosey. As you know, you can also visit a Cosey exposition in Brussels (Galerie Champaka) the next few weeks (vernissage tomorrow 3 november). All quiet on the Swiss front, then? Well, on 18 november (from 17.30), Cosey will be present at the Lausanne comic store ‘Librairie Raspoutine’. He will autograph the books you buy there. For the occasion, Raspoutine will publish a special ‘Japanese stamp’ (99 ex.).

Jonathan Autobiographie

fr_autobio

I have received many reactions to my message of 24 october about ‘Jonathan – Une autobiographie imaginaire en BD’… Agreeing with me as well as disagreeing with me. I just want to say that there seem to be a lot of readers who did not buy the Intégrales series, because they have a complete collection of Jonathan albums. For them, them ‘Autobiographie imaginaire’ will be a treat. And it answers my question ‘why’.

Atsuko Expo – Interview with Cosey – ‘Jonathan Autobiographie’

Here are some news items I want to share with you…

atsuko_titel

First, I am happy to announce that Cosey has cooperated with me again for a ‘virtual’ exposition. He sent me five nice black & white drawings from Atsuko, some of them echoing Japanese woodprints. Regard my tiny exposition as a warming up for the two real expositions in Brussels and Paris.

Second, an interview with Cosey can be read on the website of ‘Le nouvelliste’. Of course, the subject of the interview is… Atsuko.

Last check: april 2016 – the link doesn’t work anymore.

A last news I like to share is the publication of ‘Jonathan – Une autobiographie imaginaire en BD’. It appears as a volume of the Jonathan Intégrale series. This album is simply a copy of all dossiers of the previous Intégrales… nothing new… Why did they make this album?

Another exposition…

2011_10_13_maghen

A few weeks ago I announced the Cosey exposition at Galerie Champaka in Brussels. Yesterday I received this invitation of Daniel Maghen, announcing a Cosey exposition in Paris… at the same time as the Brussels expo.

According to the invitation, Cosey will be present at the vernissage of 4 november (19.00 h) at the gallery of Daniel Maghen in Paris. 25 pages of Atsuko will be displayed, as well as other Cosey works.

Resumed:

  • Brussels – Galerie Champaka – 4 till 20 november / vernissage with Cosey 3 november 18.00 – 20.30
  • Paris – Galerie Daniel Maghen – 2 till 12 november / vernissage with Cosey 4 november 19h

Chinese telephone card

2011_09_05_carte_tel_cosey

This chinese telephone card was sold on the internet. The Hongkong based telecom operator CNC seems to be the producer of the card, but I suspect that this card is a fraud.

Instead of using Hergé’s drawing for ‘Tintin in Tibet’, Cosey’s pastiche ‘Tintin au Tibet occupé’ (Tintin in occupied Tibet) was used – and I do not think this card would have passed the Chinese censors. But if it did pass and this card is an official one, then the censor is not familiar with french, and did not see the evident allusions to chinese violence in Tibet (the tracks, the tank, the burning monastery and the Chinese red star in the title).

Casemate 40

2011_08_casemate_40

In the french comic-fanzine Casemate number 40 (august/september 2011), Joël Callède has written a very nice article about ‘Le voyage en Italie’. His article is one in a series where comic artists write about an album that has touched them. Callède analyses the end of the album, making some keen observations. Recommended!

Jonathan news

I have two news items about Jonathan for you.

fr_autobio

First is the announcement of a ‘Jonathan – Une autobiographie imaginaire en BD’ by Lombard. The album will appear in October. The announcement promises an richly illustrated album, and will give Cosey’s artistic and philosophic reflections about the evolution of his work. It will also show Cosey’s sources of inspiration and his working methods.

Second news item is the title of the new Jonathan album that will appear in November 2011. The title will be ‘Atsuko’. A ‘normal’ and a special edition of the album will appear, but I have no details yet.

Tribute to Tibet

2011_04_tibet_tribute

3 january 2010, the belgian comic artist Tibet died. He is best known for his comics series Chick Bill and Ric Hochet (Rik Ringers). Lombard has published a tribute album ( ‘À la poursuite du griffon d’or; Hommage à Tibet’) to Tibet, with this contribution by Cosey.
