Angoulême 2018 (3) – the exposition
Some pictures taken by Stéphane Beaujean of the exposition ‘Une quête de l’épure’ in Angoulême. One week to go…
Calypso (10) – dutch translation
17 january 2018, a dutch translation will be published by Blloan, an imprint of Ballon Media.
I only have a tiny preview of the cover – with this ultra-international album title the only difference is the logo of the publisher…
Angoulême 2018 (2) – the catalogue
Every winner of the Grand Prix d’Angoulême is honoured with an exposition in Angoulême the following year. The title of the Cosey-expo in January 2018 will be ‘Une Quête de’Épure’ (‘ A Quest for Purity’). This is the cover of the catalogue going with the exposition.
Angoulême 2018 (1) – the poster
This is the poster for the Festival de la BD in Angoulême 2018: a ‘thanka’-ish composition of highlights from Cosey’s career. Cosey plays with the blurred distinction between himself and his famous character Jonathan, by drawing himself/Jonathan in silhouet, and putting some drawing tools in his/Jonathan’s bag.
dBD #119
In issue #119 of dBD, you can read an 8 pages interview with Cosey. He talks about the Grand Prix d’Angoulême, about the black-and-white in Calypso, about egoism and solitude, about his choice for Futuropolis for Calypso, about Mickey and its disappointing sales (surprisingly, if you have seen all publicity around it), about travels, about Asia, about interviews and about his profession… all in all, well worth reading.
More information on the website of dBD.

Jonathan Intégrale 6: january 2018
An ad in dBD 119, that shows that the delayed Jonathan Intégrale 6 will appear on 26 january 2018, that is to say: on the first full day of the Festival de la BD d’Angoulême.
Calypso (9) – My article
Still two days to go for the release of Calypso, but I proudly present my article on the album.
I have focused my article on two aspects of the album: Calypso as Cosey’s first album in black-and-white and the cooperation with François Mattille.
I explore the black-and-white theme into some depth, based on old and new interviews. It is shown that Calypso is another step in the evolution of Cosey’s art towards greater simplicity and directness, an evolution that has been continuing for more than 40 years.
The initial idea for Calypso came from François Mattille. Having found some statements about Mattille’s help as a script doctor in a very old interview (1988!), I thought it was nice to remind us of these statements – with the hindsight we have now.

Calypso (8) – Raspoutine
Galerie Raspoutine is well known among fans of Cosey for its special editions, prints and ex-librises.
For the release of Calypso, Raspoutine and Cosey made this print – a two-colour print (black and a soft beige colour background, 30 x 40 cm), 120 copies, numbered & signed. The drawing shows a scene from Calypso; the environment can be identified as Les Diablérets/Col du Pilon.
More information on the website of Raspoutine.
Casemate 107
In Casemate no. 107 (october 2017), you will find an interview with Cosey. About Calypso, of course.
More information on the website of Casemate.

Exposition in Lausanne
At this moment, and until 21 october, you can visit a Cosey Exposition at the Galerie Catherine Niederhauser in Lausanne. 14 october, Cosey himself will be present to sign the new album, Calypso.
More information on the website of the Galartis. I don’t know how long the information on the site will be available, but the page dedicated to the Cosey exposition is worth a visit!
Marc Aymon
On 6 november, swiss singer Marc Aymon’s new cd ‘Ô bel été!’ will be launched. The cd contains 16 classic swiss songs. The booklet going with the cd is illustrated by Cosey.
More information on the website of Marc Aymon.
Calypso (7) – Virtual exposition
Since 2008, ‘The World of Cosey’, in cooperation with Cosey, had a preview of each new album, in so-called ‘virtual expositions’. With Calypso, it was a bit challenging because Le Monde prepublished no less than 55 pages of Calypso in july. However, Cosey sent me some pictures of Calypso’s black and white images that allow us to look at the originals in shades of gray. Click here to visit the exposition. Enjoy!
Thanks to Cosey
Calypso (6) – almost there!
A twitter message from Futuropolis shows that Calypso will have a wrapper honouring the Grand Prix winner. Just two weeks of patience!
Warming up for Angoulême 2018
Winner of the Grand Prix 2017 in Angoulême, Cosey will be honoured with a retrospective exposition in the 2018 edition of the International Comics Festival, from 25 to 28 january.
More information about the exposition on the website of the Festival.
